I really liked those listicles in Jalopnik, where questions that should have never been made.. were made. Things like “What car would you punch in the face, if it had one?" or "Ten cars that are great for the retired car enthusiast" I kinda miss those articles.

I think they’ve been superseded by Torch’s “WHAT CAR WOULD MAKE A GOOD SCARF FOR MY PET TURTLE” “wacky” articles.

They killed it off a while back because apparently PG thinks it’s clickbaity and doesn’t like it anymore.
EDIT:
Welcome to Countersteer, our new reader-driven feature for 2016.
With this comes another change to how we do things around here: as of today, Answers of the Day is dead. Maybe forever, maybe just for now, only to be brought back later with much fanfare like the McRib or the next RX-7. But we’re replacing it with something we hope is funnier, more shocking, more substantive and more driven by the experiences of you, the readers.
AOTD’s been around for years and we’ve all but entirely ran out of good questions to ask. More than that, it was borne of an older age on the Internet, one where this site was judged not by traffic or unique visitors but by clicks, which meant a daily top 10 list formatted as a clickthrough gallery. We haven’t done that for some years now anyway, thank god.
There are superior ways to leverage the incredible knowledge base of the Jalopnik readership, so I think it’s time to try something different and hopefully better. You all, and the Internet as a whole, deserve more than a daily top 10 listicle in 2016. (I hate listicles anyway.)
So we’re going to gather your best stories the way our dearly departed pal C.A. Pinkham did on
Kitchenette
, or the way Deadspin’s
Adequate Man
does. Except with cars. And in this case, mayhem.

pg also skims through oppo to find things to share with the FP like the pic of the toyota paseo to get some more clicks. he also killed off arguably one of the most popular motorcycle blogs out there. not all of the guys ideas are gems. jalopnik has been steadily sliding downhill the past few years

eh small victory there. idk i really liked LS. There were 1-2 posts by sean himself every day plus other writers would occasionally chip in. now we get maybe 1 post every 1-2 weeks and its always some video or shit i saw on facebook a few weeks prior. maybe its just me but i liked jalopnik under Hardigree’s lead. plus its a dick move to tell someone their job is stable enough to get a new truck and book flights for press launches then shitcan them overnight and dismiss anyone from the FP that mentions it.

Yeah, in the past month or so my opinion of Jalopnik-proper has fallen considerably.

I’ve learned first hand that any type of criticism is anything but welcome... It’s sad. I guess they know what’s good and most of all, they know we’re wrong. I’m just gonna hope they realize their mistakes before it’s too late :)

Ironic since kitchenette was the epitome of click bait...

I was always happy when my suggestions would get picked. Only ones I can remember are I-285 (excluding rush hour) as one of the ten fastest roads in the US and the C3-C4 Corvette as one of the most significant model year changes. But yeah. Was fun while it lasted.

They’re too busy cross posting from blogs like gizmodo and posting articles that were on TTAC two hours ago.

Five times a week was too much. It should have been a weekly thing, maybe twice a week at the most.
It looks like that’s what they’re trying to do with the countersteer tag . It’s kind of a more relaxed, non-daily ask-the-audience feature. Sometimes the top answers are rounded up in a later AOTD-like post, but sometimes it’s just to generate discussion within that initial post.
But I see Torch using the countersteer tag for other purposes as well. It’s a really great name for a tag; I’m just not sure what the best way to use it is. “Turn right to go left” is a thought-provoking concept, whether you’re soliciting audience input, or submitting a crazy idea that’s not so crazy when you think about it.

Is it bad if I saved a screen shot from that article when I suggested GA 400 as one of the fastest roads and it got picked?

It was getting hard to ask a question every single day that hadn’t already been asked over the last several years. And when they did ask something similar to another post, some douche nozzle would always make a big deal about pointing it out. BUT, it was really the only front page feature that truly utilized user-based content, and the only one that I would sit and read every reply to. I would always check back to see if my suggestion, or the one that I supported, made the list. I think removing AOTD further disconnects the readers from the site. It was hands down my favorite.
